"Set your goal and keep moving forward"— Georges St-Pierre
I set my New Year goals and tried daily to keep moving forward!
Forward is my word of the year. It is a tad more difficult than I imagined!
Let me back up a minute to my word of the year. I do love the idea of picking a word for the year! I am a sucker for those Facebook ads. In late January, I saw an ad for My Intent Project encouraging you to pick a word for the year. I chose my word and bought a bracelet to remind me to keep.moving.forward!
Here I go with what this post is about.
I set a goal of finishing my degree at the very place where I started, and it was going great until it got challenging! Not only the school part but everything: being away from my husband and youngest son, the school work, papers, needing to know proper citations, etc. Next came the old thoughts, "Why am I doing this? Is it worth it? Can I get through all the tests and papers? I should forget it?"
Then, an amazing thing happened! My sister attended a seminar about improving your life and business. What she learned and her enthusiasm was contagious! She sent me her gratitude list and motivational TED talks or YouTube videos daily. We stumbled upon Mel Robbins. Have you ever heard of her? 5-4-3-2-1! Wow! She has an amazing message! I am so grateful my sister discovered her. It was just what I needed when things were getting tough. Funny how God does that!
Mel Robbins is best known for her book The 5 Second Rule: Transform your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage.
You can also watch her Ted Talk.
I will leave you with an excerpt from her book.
Everyday Courage by Mel Robbins
Courage is the ability to do the things that feel difficult, scary or uncertain.
It isn't reserved for just a chosen few.
Courage is a birthright. It's inside all of us.
And it's waiting for you to discover it.
One moment of courage can change your day. One day can change your life. And one life can change the world.
That's the true power of courage; it reveals you. The greatest version of you.
Discover your courage, and you will be capable of accomplishing and experiencing anything you dream about.
Yes, even changing the world.
